Bella’s video seems to have stirred up a bit of controversy. For the most part she’s seen in a positive light. But there are several people that seem to think what she’s doing is unconscionable at her age. Bella is 6 years old and a budding makeup artist. She’s obviously watched a lot of make up application to have such command at her age over the “makeup” vernacular. Here’s my take on her videos.

Teaching children at an early age about skin care and makeup application is a good thing. If she has an interest in learning at 6, why not? She is adorable in her understanding of what colors go where. I hope to see her talking about safe practices in makeup application. In a few years she’s going to want to share her make up, including her lip gloss and mascara with her friends. Does she understand the danger in transferring her germs to her girlfriends? Does she understand the importance of cleansing your face morning and night? She obviously gets the application process. I’m pretty sure her mom has taught her that our society isn’t very accepting for children of her age to wear makeup unless they are on stage either dancing or acting in a school play. But really, at her age, what a fun way to spend time.

For me, I’ll keep watching her videos because when she giggles, it makes ME giggle. At any age, that’s a good thing.

Many young girls compare themselves to what they see on a billboard, TV or the cover of Vogue. Their self-esteem suffers because they never measure up to what they see.

I viewed the attached video by a photographer from Australia – Stephan Bollinger. His reminder that what you see is very different from what you get… is profound. Many of us have family members that have struggled with self image because, to them, they fall short of what they “think” is the expectation.

If you have a friend, a daughter, a granddaughter or it’s just you that could use a reality check…please share this video. I applaud Stephan being so forth-coming about the reality of his profession.

It was soft, smooth, clear…almost translucent and very healthy looking. Baby skin is brand new, not yet harmed or effected by the elements, chemicals, poor nutrition or or life’s emotional ups and downs. Unfortunately, you will never be able to regain your perfect baby skin but by making the right choices you can slow down the aging process. Have you ever noticed after a night’s sleep, how you wake up with puffy eyes and sometimes a puffy face? Here’s why… Our skin is a living breathing organ made up of billions of cells floating in a watery, salty liquid. This liquid makes up about 70% of our body…of which, more than 1/3 is found in the skin. Water always gravitates to the stationary areas which is why when we sleep the water in our facial skin settles under the eyes. As we begin to go about our day and move around, the puffiness disappears because the water is reabsorbed throughout the skin.

In our late 20′s, this re-absorption doesn’t happen as naturally. For over 20 years, the delicate tissue underneath the eyes has been stretching to accommodate these fluids. Now because of the weakened tissues, your skin starts to sag. By our 30′s, because the cellular regeneration has begun to slow down, fine lines and wrinkles may begin to appear.

By our 40′s fat loss may begin, resulting in excess skin that arranges itself in sags and folds. You may begin to see horizontal lines across your forehead and some droopiness of your eyelids. Loss of fat in the cheeks can cause the formation of puffy jowls and your lips may become thin. This is where it gets scary…when you have sagging skin, the skin causes shadows, which eventually becomes those dark circles. Now the aging process has really set in.

By your 50′s, postmenopausal epidermal cell generation slows by almost 50%. You skin becomes thinner and less flexible. There is less collagen and elastin in the skin. Your skin is also less able to repair damage or maintain it’s moisture level. The oil that previously sealed in the moisture has diminished. Your skin is now showing the effects of less moisture with more wrinkles and skin that is more transparent. That’s why your skin the bruises more easily. The aging process is a fact of life, but the knowledge you are armed with can slow the process down. Given the proper information, you can choose skin care products wisely for your skin’s optimum health and beauty.

Here are just a few of the many reasons a liquid foundation is far more nourishing than using powder or mineral based products.

1. Liquid foundation adds an extra barrier between the skin and the elements that assault us every day. Get protection from pollution, both indoors and out , with a liquid foundation.

2. Using a liquid foundation locks moisture in your skin.

3. A liquid foundation minimizes pores.

4. Liquid foundation fills in fine lines and wrinkles.

5. Liquid foundation adds a dewy glow to your skin.

6. SeneGence makes a foundation that provides a greater level of coverage over powder products.

7. If you are using liquid foundation by SeneGence it will provide you with long-lasting coverage for up to 8 hours or more.

Caring for your skin with products that nourish and supply your skin with the moisture it needs will make a visible difference to you. Notice how dry and “cakey” women look when wearing mineral makeup? Resist buying a “name”. Purchase wisely…it will benefit you in the long run.

Our skin becomes thinner and less flexible. We have have less collagen and elastin in our skin which means we are less able to repair any damage to the skin and retain the necessary moisture. In addition to that, the sebaceous glands that deliver oil begin to slow down. That oil has served to keep moisture in your skin for many years. Without moisture our skin becomes dry and wrinkled. Our skin bruises more easily which leads to more wrinkles and sagging. Yikes! Are you looking forward to that?

Here’s the good news…we can’t stop this inevitable process but we can slow it down. With the proper knowledge about our skin and how it works we can choose the best products and habits to get us through the years until maybe we just might not remember to care!

Follow these simple guidelines and you can put to bed which one to use and where. Let’s break it down…highlighting (to lighten) brings a feature forward. Contouring (to darken) minimizes a feature so it’s less prominent. When you want to emphasize a certain feature, highlight it with a lighter foundation or powder. When you want to minimize a feature you’re not so excited about, contour it with a darker product. You can also sculpt your round face as shown in the picture to achieve a slimmer look. You’ll also reap the side benefit of adding color and interest to your face. Don’t forget to evenly blend all shades. After all, you don’t want to look like the diagram.

          BRUSHES FOR LIQUID MAKEUP

(Just ask any artist…the brush does matter).

…from Left to Right

1) The first brush is a perfectly tapered foundation brush. It has synthetic bristles that allows the perfect application of cream or liquid foundation. It gives you a very smooth and even look to your application.

2) Number 2 is the blush brush. This brush is perfect to accurately apply cream blush to the apple of your cheek. If you struggle to find exactly where that is, just smile. It’s the little apples that got pinched when you were a kid.

3) Number 3 is an alternate blush brush. This is the creme de la creme of the blush brushes. It is made with very soft squirrel bristles. It has a full and round shape and will give you a flawless application.

4) Number 4 is a powder brush. It can also double as a blush brush. This is the perfect brush for applying loose powder. It’s also terrific for removing excess powder if you have any left over from a puff application. Because of it’s ideal size and shape, it gives you the precision you need.

5) The last brush is a giant powder brush. It is made from silk and feels great on your cheeks. It is very big and fluffy which makes it perfect for applying powder.

It is vital that LipSense® be applied properly to give you the longest lasting capability and to achieve the greatest conditioning of your lips. Please read and following instructions below before starting to enjoy your LipSense®. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to call.

APPLY LIPHow To Apply LipSenseSENSE® TO CLEAN, DRY LIPS. Residue of any kind on your lips could result in LipSense® not working.

SHAKE THE TUBE OF LIPSENSE® horizontally prior to application to ensure even application of the color.

If you are using a liner then LINE YOUR LIPS FIRST. A small lip liner applicator is available if you wish to line with your primary color. Remember to use the Ooops remover to adjust any little mistakes.

START AT THE CENTER OF YOUR TOP LIP AND GO TO THE CORNER. Repeat opposite side of top lip. With one continual stroke, apply one layer of color to the bottom lip from corner to corner.

Upon application of the LipSense® LipColor YOU MAY EXPERIENCE A TINGLING SENSATION. The tingling will subside as soon as you apply the moisturizing gloss.

ALLOW LIPSENSE ® TO DRY COMPLETELY (5 to 6 seconds) before applying the next layer. It is not recommended to apply more than three layers of color.

DO NOT BLOT between each layer of color. You may press your lips together after the gloss has been applied to the last layer of color.

For the greatest staying power APPLY 3 LAYERS OF COLOR. Three layers provide the greatest intensity of color and longest lasting results.

APPLY COLOR EVERYWHERE you want it to be. This is not like ordinary lipstick – it will not “smoosh” or spread color once it has dried.

APPLY MOISTURIZING GLOSS any time after the final layer of lip color has been applied; this completes and cures the application process. Be generous with the gloss, as this is the most important step in conditioning your lips. Reapply the moisturizing gloss after you eat, or as needed to increase wearing time. Because it contains Shea Butter, Vitamin E and Beeswax which helps to heal, hydrate, lubricate, and condition your lips you’ll want to add this to your evening bedtime routine.

TO REMOVE THE COLOR: When it is ready to come off it will begin to flake. You might think that it is your lips drying out, but it is actually the color wearing off. You can rub hard with a wash cloth to remove the flakes (I don’t recommend this) or the best way is to remove it is with a glycerin bar of soap, like Neutrogena. You cannot freshen up the color over the existing color that is beginning to come off. You must totally remove the color and then re-apply.

Once you get the rhythm of the application BE CREATIVE. It will take you about 1 minute for the entire process. Experiment with mixing colors and different glosses to create different looks. Remember with only three colors you can create 27 different shades. The colors are only limited to your imagination!

The Science Behind the Product…

Dark Circle Eye Treatment helps reduce Dark Circles by 122%! Tests also reveal a significant reduction of Edema (swelling caused by fluid often creating Under Eye Puffiness). The combination of ingredients such as Suma Root Extract and Muira Puama Bark/Stem Extract along with Lilly Flower Extract, reates the most complete and scientifically based dermocosmetic treatment of imperfections, especially dark circles, edema and under eye puffiness.

Key Ingredients and Benefits:

Caffeine – an antioxidant most shown to repair damage and slow the aging process. (Outside your body…sorry!)

Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Extract: a skin-conditioning agent used in cosmetics and beauty care products because of it’s ability to “act in oxidative stress” and improve skin conditions.

Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Extract: a super-anti-oxidant with astringent and anti-bacterial and inflammatory properties. It is a great addition to the skincare world for its ability to fight free-radicals and thus the signs of aging. It has also been found to hydrate the skin when applied topically.

Green Tree Extract: Protects collagen from being broken down.
